Why were Europeans able to conquer many of the groups in the Americas?
In the first chapter of Guns, Diamond establishes two main arguments that will become crucial to his thesis later on in the book.
First, he goes in depth about mass extermination and further extinction of large mammals that occurred in New Guinea and Australia which were important for food and domestication, and secondly he argues that all the first civilized peoples in the world each had the ability to out develop one another, but were hindered or helped by their environment.
For instance, Europeans believed that they should become tremendously wealthy and prestige, and surpass all other powers in the world, in terms of development of society and abundance in resources. ..excluding the Europeans could have governed the world like monarchs, if they would not have differed in worldviews.
It’s because of their grit on resources and power, and their avid nature that they were able to develop cutting-edge technologies, such as deadly guns, infectious germs, and powerf... Humans can overcome all the challenges that nature presents them with, by taking advantage of situations or migrating.
” For over thirty years, Diamond was investigating our inferred history for clues, to answer Yali’s question.
He published a scientific opinion that explains how geography is to blame for the dispersal of power, as few societies and civilizations inhabiting in the Middle East had access to resources, such as the seeds of highly nutritious crops alike wheat and barley, and useful livestock such as cow and sheep, which others did not. What does Diamond believe led to the unequal distribution of wealth and power in the world? We apologize for any inconvenience, and thank you for your visiting. Not without flaws, Jared Diamond makes many claims throughout his work, and provides numerous examples and evidence to support his theories. In this essay, I will summarize Jared Diamond's accounts of world history and evolution of culture, and compare and contrast it with what I have learned using the textbook for this class.Jared Diamond begins Guns with a prologue which sets the stage for the rest of the book.Approached in New Guinea by his friend and local politician Yali, he is posed a question: "Why is it that you white people developed so much cargo and brought it to New Guinea, but we black people had little cargo of our own? This question brought about the thesis of his book, that environment is more persuasive on development of civilization than people may have once thought. On what grounds does Diamond challenge this line of thinking? Can you explain some of the reasons why this area enjoyed such success while other regions faltered? It may seem common sense for societies to adopt innovations that have been found to be useful. However, Diamond refers to some innovations that were not, or still have not been, adopted in particular societies—despite their usefulness. The film contrasts the lives of the Incas and that of the Spaniards. While the Spanish lived in an expanse bordering other competitive cultures, the Incas lived in a valley that did not allow them to interact with other people.
